UFC 100 Predictions

With UFC 100 only one day away, I’m going to make some predictions for the main card only.

1. Yoshihiro Akiyama Vs Alan Becher: I know absolutely NOTHING about either of these fighters so I’m going to take a shot in the dark here and go with Akiyama.

2. Dan “Hendo” Henderson Vs Michael “The Count” Bisping:  My prediction is Dan Henderson by decision based upon experience and hunger. Bisping is becoming a better fighter ever time I see him, but I think Henderson will be able to hold off and win the decision.

3. Jon Fitch Vs Paulo Thiago: Thiago comes into this  undefeated (11-0) and Fitch comes in looking to work his way back up to top contender status for the 170Lb title.  Fitch is more experienced/well rounded of the two fighters. I look for Fitch to win this one by submission.

4. Georges “Rush” St. Pierre Vs Thiago “Pit bull” Alves: Both men are excellent fighters, however I think St. Pierre is a one of a kind fighter. He comes into this fight as the 170 pound champion, fresh off handing B.J. Penn his ass in a title defense. His only two losses are to Matt Sara and Matt Hughes. He later defeated Matt Hughes not once, but twice. Both times St. Pierre walked through Hughes without a problem. Alves has been exactly as his nickname suggests inside the octagon…a pit bull. He’s mowed through opponents, including Matt Hughes. He’s a HUGE 170Lb fighter, he’ll be a great test for St. Pierre as far as strength goes. I think St. Pierre will win the fight by stoppage in the 4th round.

5. Brock Lesnar Vs Frank Mir: Frank Mir does hold a victory over Lesnar, however this was Lesnar’s first fight in UFC and was dominating Mir. The fight was stopped because he hit Mir in the back of the head multiple times prompting a stoppage for Mir to recover. Upon the restart, Lesnar was able to take Mir down again, but he made one mistake. He left his legs wide open and Mir was able to grab him and put him in a knee bar forcing Lesnar to tap out. This fight is kind of hard to pick, I’m going to go with Mir by submission because of experience, and I think he wants it more.

UFC 100…

…Is only two (count them two) days away! The card looks amazing, and I’m excited not only for the co-main events but to see my boy Jon Fitch make his return to main card status. Jon Fitch is taking on 11-0 Paulo Thiago. I haven’t seen Thiago fight so I have no idea what to think of him. My money is on Jon Fitch though, he’s a beast and he’s hungry to make it back up to the top.

There are two fighters on the under card I’m excited to see, Stephan Bonnar and John Jones. I’ve seen both of these Jones defeated Bonnar in their last fight by unanimous decision. Jones will be fighting Jake O’Brien on this card, who is no push over. He’s a strong guy with decent ground game and ok stand up from what I remember. We’ll see what happens….Tomorrow will be UFC 100 predictions.

Team Wreckage…

…training has begun. I’ve come up with a new training program that I call “team wreckage” training. It’s hardcore cardio training, quick circuit training followed by ab work and finished with boxing or jujitsu. I plan to use it to drop from 80.29KG/177Lbs to 73.5KG/162.5Lbs.

The training consists of 45 minutes of cardio, 45 minutes of circuit weight training, 20 minutes of AB work, 20 minutes of boxing or 30 minutes of jujitsu and finally another 15 minutes of cardio.  It should do the trick in the weight loss and get cut up department. I’m expecting to start to see results within the next few weeks.

UFC 100…

…is 13 days away! Brock Lesnar Vs Mrank Mir. I’m so excited, I can hardly contain myself.

The only thing I do give her, is she’s from Tennessee, people down there just aren’t all that with it. They process a little slower.

Case and point…my girlfriend in college used to go to Tennessee every year with her mom to visit family. She’s born and raised in the DC/Metro area, so she doesn’t have an accent or as the ‘necks refer to it a southern draw. She was standing in line one day at the grocery store with her mom and they were conversing, the girl at the cash register proclaimed to my then girlfriend and her mother “Ya’ll got some funny ack-saints!” followed up with the question “Ya’ll from England er somethin’?” My then girlfriend and her mother just laughed at the girl and her mother responded “Yeah, or something…”

UFC 99…

…Took place Saturday June 13th in Cologne Germany. The main card featured a couple of good fights. Mirko CroCop showed he may be able to still get it done. He was fighting a lower level oponent in Mostapha Al-Turk however he did put on a good showing. He kind of whored Dana White and the UFC by asking to come back then signing a deal with Dream before his UFC fight. I guess we’ll have to check the inter-web-connect t osee if he still has it.

Rich “Ace” Franklin took on Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva in the main event. Franklin won 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 on the judges score cards after 3 rounds of fighting. This was the only fight I was able to see, Franklin looked a little slower at 195 then he does at 185 but he looked more natural at that weight. He did a good job of keeping his range and using his left leg kick to the body and legs of Silva. Franklin does however need to keep his left hand up when he throws his leg kicks. He was caught more then once by Silva throwing a right hand over the top of Franklin’s low left when he threw a few body kicks.

This event was just to tide every over for the REALUFC event coming up Saturday, July 11th. UFC 100! It will feature not one, but two title fights. Welterweight champion Georges “Rush” St. Pierre defends his title against Thiago “The Pit Bull” Alves. The co-main event features the current UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar defending his UFC heavyweight title against “Interim” UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir. Mir won the UFC heavyweight champions on June 19th 2004, but was in a motorcycle accident a few months later and was unable to defend his title. Because of this he was stripped of his title and had to earn it back. It took him four and a half years to win it back, but on December 28th 2008 he won the “Interim UFC Heavyweight Championship” by defeating Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Lesnar was at the fight sitting cage side when Mir beat Nogueira. Almost immediately after being announced the victor of the fight Mir looked and pointed at Lesnar and announced “You have my belt!” Lesnar just smiled.

The other story line here, besided the fact both men are UFC heavyweight champions, is this is a rematch from UFC 81 in which Lesnar was doing a pretty good job of pounding on Mir until he stood with his legs too wide open and Mir caught him in a knee bar forcing him to tap out.

Ouch

I give you Cub Swanson…he took a flying knee from Jose Aldo straight to his dome piece on Sunday night in his WEC fight.
